The Results Are In!
The IRS issued its annual Data Book with numerical data on a variety of topics related to tax assessments, collections, audits, and criminal cases. For the 2023 fiscal year, the IRS collected about $4.7 trillion, which represents 96% of the total U.S. government operations funding. Additionally, by completing over 580,000 audits, the IRS assessed an additional $31.9 billion in tax. The IRS has achieved a higher level of service to taxpayers, and the Office of Chief Counsel closed significantly more cases than were opened last year. To review the complete Data Book, click here.
