The IRS has a new free tax filing service for eligible taxpayers allowing them to file online, beginning in 2024. To ensure the program is successful, the IRS is limiting participation to certain states (including California), and who receive income from specific sources such as W-2 wage income, SSA-1099 Social Security and RRB-1099 Railroad Retirement Income, 1099-G Unemployment compensation, and 1099-INT interest income of $1,500 or less.
