The IRS recently issued an update stating it dramatically improved service during the last filing season, noting it achieved an 87% level of service. The IRS was able to answer 3 million more calls and reduced hold times from 28 minutes to three minutes. An additional 140,000 taxpayers were assisted in person, and the list goes on.
Importantly, in just the last three months, the IRS closed about 175 delinquent tax cases involving millionaires, collecting $38 million. Finally, the IRS is making significant progress in modernization including replacing decades old mail opening machines, and similar steps.
