Last month the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) auctioned off two properties seized due to illegal cannabis sales. One of the properties, in Whittier, owes over $850,000 in taxes to the state which the CDTFA hopes to recover from its auction. Earlier in the month, a similar seized property in Compton was sold for about $256,000.
The CDTFA is actively seeking to identify illegal businesses, especially unlicensed cannabis operations, and will take extreme measures such as seizing and auctioning off property to ensure it recovers revenue owed to the state. To make sure you are compliant, contact one of our attorneys today.
