IRS National Taxpayer Advocate’s 2020 Report

by | Jan 13, 2021 | IRS |

It is no surprise the IRS, along with the rest of us, was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In her annual report to Congress, the National Taxpayer Advocate, Erin Collins, summarized the problems faced by the IRS including delays in issuing refunds due to backlogs, and also by fraud detection filters.

The National Taxpayer Advocate has proposed 66 legislative recommendations including establishing minimum standards for tax preparers, expanding the U.S. Tax Court’s jurisdiction to hear refund cases, and to simplify the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
