Treasury Inspector General Reports on IRS Failures

by | Sep 24, 2025 | IRS, Tax Returns |

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) recently issued several reports regarding the work of the IRS over the 2025 fiscal year, and recommendations necessary for improvement.

TIGTA ultimately concluded that IRS failed to follow procedures consistently to protect taxpayers’ rights to representation more than 13,000 times in the past year, that the IRS’ Cybersecurity Program was ineffective last year, and treatment of taxpayers who filed a joint tax return, but were no longer married or living together, did not receive the information they were entitled to or had their privacy violated in nearly one-third of the cases reviewed.
