IRS Calls and Texts are Likely Fraudulent

by | Jul 27, 2022 | IRS |

There can never been enough reminders about how to avoid scams, as fraudsters get more sophisticated every year.  The IRS has joined the effort to let people know important ways to avoid scams involving the IRS.  While it is possible that the IRS will call or visit a taxpayer, it doesn’t happen often.  Know that the IRS never makes threats over the phone demanding payment via prepaid debit or gift card.  Nor does the IRS threaten to immediately bring in law enforcement to arrest a taxpayer for nonpayment.  The IRS will also never ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.  For additional information about avoiding scams, or what to do if you receive a fraudulent message alleging to be from the IRS, click here.
