Federal criminal prosecutors have requested records from Weedmaps, an online directory and review of cannabis retailers, for marijuana consumers.
The Eastern District of California issued a subpoena to Weedmaps, requesting documents from about 30 companies listed on Weedmaps’ website, to ensure the companies with California cannabis regulations.
The record request in the subpoena is broad, including communications and records regarding payments to government employees and elected officials, as well as documents related to specific retail company’s services including those related to purchasing cannabis online. Companies found to be out of compliance may face criminal charges.
Prosecutors also seek information related to agriculture chemicals and pesticide use, possibly more heavily used in illegal growing sites.
