The California Franchise Tax Board recently compiled statistics regarding the 2016 tax filing season. It released data regarding individual and business returns, refunds, and taxpayer services. Highlights included:
- A 3 percent increase in personal income tax returns filed, 87 percent of which were e-filed;
- A 12 percent increase in fiduciary returns, which have been eligible for the e-filing system for 3 years;
- Nearly 80,000 refunds issued to business entities, totalling $1 billion; and
- A 77 percent answer rate for calls made to the Tax Practitioner Hotline.
