New IRS Videos Help International Taxpayers With Their U.S. Tax Filing Questions

On Behalf of | Jan 12, 2016 | IRS |

Paying U.S. taxes while overseas doesn’t have to be difficult with this year’s improved IRS.gov help guides. In addition to the standard International Taxpayer page, U.S. citizens and other international taxpayers living outside the U.S. can now watch videos to learn about the following topics:

• Filing Requirements

• Foreign Earned Income Exclusion

• Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)

• Filing Status if Married to a Nonresident Alien

• Foreign Tax Credit

• Introduction to the International Taxpayers Web Page

For other questions, you can still search the IRS Tax Map and International Tax Topic Index for answers. The International Taxpayer page has sections dedicated specifically to requirements for taxpayers living abroad, resident aliens, foreign students, territory residents, nonresident aliens, and others. You can also find contact information for the IRS if you live abroad and links to forms, currency exchange information, a directory of qualified tax preparers, and tips for making sure you receive any refund you are owed. For information on the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) as it applies to individuals, click here.

Remember: “By law, Americans living abroad, as well as many non-U.S. citizens, must file a U.S. income tax return.”
